originally I intended the background to be really dark, which will explain the nightlight cool darker color scheme I used to color in our beautiful badass Krew, but I didn't go with it because a lot of elements bled through the background like Bolin, Asami and Mako's hair and outfits and the krew would fail to stand out of the background and it was really eye twitch-causing-y so I made the choice of converting to a cool white background instead so that they will look hella bold and emphasized on the pic with the principles of negative vs positive space contrast and all and I really like it like that. I'm like halfway following lighting theory here now that's why they all seem darker and duller than they should be.I have no intention to infringe copyrights through my fan artworks/ ideas/ concepts or whatsoever
also yes I like making Korra's complexion darker than usual when I draw her because there's no problem with dark skin and i super duper appreciate you guys here on deviantart loving and appreciating my interpretation of the almighty Korra. thank you guys
but anyway, her skin does seem darker than i intend to on thumbnail versions, watermarked version with the watermark on Korra's face, and in smaller screens such as smart phones (i have my eye on you oversensitive tumblr babies who piss on everything they find on their dashboard) and it might be because of the PNG file's interlace causing a lot of colors to shift to the dark side a bit and it's not that harmful so like chill kay. at least it all looks the way it should on full res anyway
Anyway Korra's palette was the identical one I used with this work in respect to a dark lighting environment which is what I am trying to achieve like i mentioned in the aforesaid. the only change i did was the shift of hue and saturation caused by the blue mask I overlayed on my babies... idk I'm like really experimenting with color and lighting theory here you guys so if you don't understand either of those principles and you complain that "korra is black" then i have some bad news for you
interesting tho I think i accidentally created an illusion because of this. like that Korra looks dark on a light background but she actually has a fairer dark complexion like intended on a dark background. idk you can see here in this alternate version of the piece ...magic bruh
gosh i keep saying anywaythis was drawn partly in sketchbook pro 7. sadly the program gave up on me less than halfway of the process and kept crashing and caused so much problems with my computer as well and it was impossible to work on.
so i continued and finished in photoshop elements 10 because i cant believe the software works so well why haVEN'T I BEEN USING IT BEFORE???
so far i loved working in photoshop elements better than sketchbook overall. i won't recommend sketchbook pro u guys... both desktop and the ipad one... the ios one i'm pretty sure it's a scam.. idk correct me if i'm wrong but it gives that impression of a scam. I contacted support on upgrading my ios sketchbook and why i had to pay again for a pro upgrade i already paid for in the app and then they offered me some discount on an annual license and told me i should buy a subscription annual license from them so that i could use the new ipad upgrade with my desktop pro and it's really sketchy because i ALREADY payed for a perpetual license on the desktop and theyre telling me to pay for that license again just to upgrade my ipad sketchbook except this license they're offering me only lasts for a year gosh it made me so mad i give up on this software at least adobe's pretty honest with they're subscription system and still offers their previous software versions. sketchbook is just... sketchy. idk rant over
other than that.. pro 7 has waaaaaaaayyy too many bugs and problems to function properly as a whole. the only things working and charming about it are the perspective tools, auto recovery, and constant crashing and freezing of the program.
but yeah, i hope all the problems during the first half of the process was worth it i hope you guys like my work
